After more than 1800 km by car across Italy, Austria, and Germany we
arrived in Holland, precisely in Tilburg,
where the IQ will play live for the last time Subterranea
show.
At 19.00, we enter into 013,
the
place where the gig will be performed; it is a modern club that is perfect
for the video that IQ want to make and 800 persons are waiting .
After a little wait, the show starts: the sheet is down, the light are
switched off and we start to listen to first notes of Overture.
The beginning of the band is explosive and the charge is right !
Overture goes on with all its dramatic force and on the introductory
notes of Provider Peter appears all dressed in white, but
he seems to doesn't to be on the top yet.
At the performance of Subterranea the sheet goes up and the band
appear in all its fascinating feeling; but something seems that doesn't
go for the right verse, particulary Martin's performance has some hesitancy
and Peter doesn't seem to be at 100%.
This impression is confirmed by the two following songs ,
even if Martin does very well his solo of Slepless Incidental,
he isn't the same in central part of Failsafe. Mike, Paul and John
play very well, instead, in this first part of gig; particulary Mike seem
to be at top.
At this point of the show, some technical troubles, probably the lights,
cause its interruption. After a short pause the band entertains its audience
playing Out of Nowhere and Mama Mia in medley, while behind
the technical staff is working on the light.
After 30 min , at 9.40 the band start again the show from the song Subterranea.
The "break" was very good for Martin and Peter, infact also the songs
that they have played already are more powerfull and more precise.
Speak my name is very nice; in this one Mike plays the classic
guitar for the only time in the whole concert.
Until State of Mine there is a succession of special effect with
frequent help of Mike on the keyboard.
After the soft Laid Low, the band grows. It is to underline
the wonderful performance of Mike, that confirm his "state of grace";
particulary in Capricorn and High Waters.
The last performance of Subterranea finishes
with a good The Narrow Margin, a bit lower than the one of Yverdon
les Bains, a year ago.
Our (but only our) first impression is that even if it was a wonderful
gig (as all IQ gigs), the band played
more over for the video, and this is confirmed by how they play wonderfully
their encores, ended with a splendid Widow's Peak.
In the end it was surely a splendid gig but not the best.
We would say many other things, but we stop here.
Now everything is over and we do our unhappy 1800 km to Rome.
Thank you Mike, Paul, Peter, Martin and John for
all that you transmit with your music !!!!
